Economic Development in Pittsfield, Illinois
The city of Pittsfield is situated in west central Illinois between the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, thus earning its designation as the “land between the rivers.” As the government seat and largest city in Pike County, Pittsfield is a retail shopping hub for the region, offers excellent hospital and related medical services, accommodates corporate air travel at the Pittsfield Penstone Municipal Airport, and is an excellent location for a variety of businesses, including retailers, manufacturers, and warehouse and distribution facilities.
The City has established two Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Districts to further encourage the development and rehabilitation of commercial, industrial, residential, and other mixed use properties located throughout the community. By attracting and promoting business and industry, we will continue providing a safe and welcoming environment for families and businesses alike.
We are located along U.S. Route 54, where our residents enjoy the many benefits of living in a smaller, tight-knit community while still being within comfortable driving distance of urban amenities. Located within 3 miles of Interstate 72, we are just one hour west of Springfield, two hours southwest of Peoria, and less than two hours northwest of the St. Louis metropolitan area.We are extremely proud of our 180-year history and hope to combine the lessons we have learned from the past with our vision for economic development in the future. We are diligently working to improve our economy, increase employment opportunities, and improve quality of life for our residents and businesses.
